Man Arrested For 2014 Rape Of College Student: Fairfield Police

The suspect was extradited from Mexico and arrested for the brutal sexual assault and beating of a college student in a 2014 home invasion.

FAIRFIELD, CT — After more than four years of searching for a man accused of viciously sexually assaulting and beating a college student, Fairfield Police have made an arrest in the case. Edibaldo “Eddie” Duran, 29, was extradited from Mexico to Connecticut and taken into the custody of the Fairfield Police Department on Wednesday night.

Police said that at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2014, a man broke into a private residence occupied by female college students. The victim, who was the lone occupant of the home at the time, was “awakened by the suspect, beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled to the point of unconsciousness,” according to police.

After an “intensive investigation,” including a scientific examination of physical evidence, Duran was identified as the person responsible for the attack and an arrest warrant affidavit was signed for his arrest in September of 2014, police said. On Sept. 5, 2014 at 12:45 a.m., Duran boarded an AeroMexico flight that departed from JFK and arrived in Mexico City at 5:08 a.m. later that same morning.

The Connecticut Post reports that Duran was arrested after Mexican authorities, working on information from the U.S. Marshal Service, surrounded a house in the south-central city of Puebla and took him into custody on Wednesday. He was then extradited to Connecticut for his outstanding arrest warrant from 2014.

Fairfield Police took Duran into custody at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 19 and charged him with home invasion, first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree strangulation, first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $250,000 court ordered bond.
