More Than 1,600 Lose Power In Fairfield Amid Icy Weather

UPDATE: As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, power had been returned to all but one UI customer in Fairfield, according to the company outage map.


FAIRFIELD, CT — More than 1,600 United Illuminating Co. customers lost power Tuesday in Fairfield after a day of ice and rain, according to the company's outage map. Nearly 7 percent of UI's Fairfield customers were without power as of about 3:30 p.m.

The outage began about 2:45 p.m. and was expected to be resolved by 7 p.m., the map said.

The incident followed a day of freezing rain that saw schools close in town. The area is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook, as well as a Winter Weather Advisory, which is expected to expire at 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
