New Record Store Blends Coffee and Music in Fairfield

Fairfield, CT — A former Starbucks manager has opened his own café in Fairfield that blends coffee and music.

The Vinyl Street Café, located at 1895 Post Road, Suite C, will celebrate its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 22.

The owner, Joshua Wright, has a great appreciation for music and coffee. Wright was a manager at the Westport Starbucks in the 90s, and developed his interest, taste and love for coffee during that time, according to a press release from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

And as an avid music listener, he always appreciated the warm sound that vinyl produced.

So as the story progresses, and as most local record stores started to close, Wright began selling vinyl online with the thought of opening a physical location at some point.

As online sales continued to grow, he realized that there was a demand for records.

After moving with his family to Fairfield in August 2015, he thought Fairfield was the perfect location to open his music café. He added coffee to the business plan, and decided to open Vinyl Street Café on the Post Road, as a casual café style, listening lounge.

VSC will sell both new and used vinyl records from many genres of music. Other products include CD’s, cassettes, DVDs, turntables and more. In the listening lounge, clients can test out turntables and equipment, as well as listen to certain records prior to purchase.

Vinyl Street Café offers a wide variety of music in the indie, urban and mainstream space, carrying both new and used vinyl records, CD’s and record players. Artists like the: Beatles, Talking Heads, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Sam Cook, Thelonious Monk, just to name a few, can all be found in the store.

For now, the “Café” is in its infancy, with only a self-serve coffee bar in the listening lounge, but the owner has a bigger vision for the future.

The ribbon cutting will begin promptly at 5 p.m. on July 22, with First Selectman Michael Tetreau, and everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, to welcome and help celebrate their official ribbon cutting.
