New Paradigm Theatre welcomes Youth Board director

Katherine Griffin will be NPT's new Youth Board Director

New Paradigm Theatre (NPT), a nonprofit theatre company well-known for working with young leaders and for its inventive productions that are presented with multi-cultural, multi-generational and multi-gendered casting is excited to welcome Katherine Griffin (Trumbull, CT) to their staff as the Youth Board Director.

NPT has been bridging the gap between the arts and the local community since 2012 by creating “collective impact” partnerships with other nonprofit organizations through theatrical productions and educational events which always involve their very active NPT Youth Board of Directors.

Ms. Griffin has been involved with NPT since 2013. In 2015, she was elected Youth Board President, making her the first female to hold the position in the Youth Board's history. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education and minors in English and American Sign Language & Deaf Studies this past May and is currently working on her Master's at UConn. While at Uconn she stayed connected with NPT by teaching, assistant directing/choreographing and performing in all four summer NPT productions.

Katherine is a strong anti-racist educator and advocate. “I believe in racial and educational equity, and I believe the arts can be a very important tool in creating equitable spaces and communities. I also spent a lot of time in college studying Critical Disability Theory, which basically means I'm a strong advocate for people with all types of disabilities in all contexts.” says Griffin.

Some of the NPT Youth board, as well as adult board has also been participating in the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County’s “Conversations on Race: Reimagining Arts & Culture” zoom workshops. NPT’s DEI statement can be found here: http://nptheatre.org/speakup/

Kristin Huffman, Artistic Director and Broadway veteran says “The Youth Board has monthly board meetings as well as other volunteer activities and I will look forward to watching Katherine lead with distinction, grace, and humility. We are thrilled to have her working with us in this capacity.”
