One Dead In Crash On Route 15 In Fairfield
State Police say the vehicle involved in the fatal crash had struck a vehicle earlier in the night in Stratford and fled the scene.

FAIRFIELD, CT — One person was killed after striking a tree near the Exit 46 off-ramp on Route 15 South in Fairfield late Monday night, state police said. The vehicle involved in the crash had struck an off-duty trooper’s personal vehicle earlier in the night in Stratford and fled the scene, according to Trooper First Class Kelly Grant.
The fatal crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 14. The crashed vehicle was located by the Trumbull Police Department which was assisting in the search for the evading vehicle, according to Grant. (To sign up for Fairfield breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
According to the accident report, the vehicle had been traveling southbound on Route 15 in the area of Exit 46 in Fairfield when “for unknown reasons” it left the travel portion of the roadway and entered onto the Exit 46 off ramp.

Once on the Exit 46 off ramp, the vehicle continued “to travel straight failing to negotiate the right curvature of the ramp,” according to the report. The vehicle proceeded straight and traveled down a slight embankment and struck a tree along the driver’s side of the vehicle, police wrote in the report.
The accident remains under investigation.
