ORCHIDS IN THE REALM OF SUBLIME OPENING

C. Parker Gallery, 17 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT, is proud to announce the exhibition, “Orchids in the Realm of the Sublime”, recent orchid paintings by Patricia Laspino, contemporary American painter and founder of the “Orchid Alliance Project-Bridging Art & Science”. The exhibition premieres on September 16, 2015 with the artist in attendance from 5-8PM, and runs through October 14. Pat Laspino’s provocative large scale oil paintings use orchids as metaphor, to explore cultural and biological evolution, biodiversity and environmental stewardship. The artist views orchids as a flagship plant family or ambassador to tell stories about the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world. Her paintings uncover the fundamental attractive shapes and designs of nature where symmetry, color, and pattern all play important roles on nature’s grand stage of attraction. The artist’s signature style interweaves 60-80 layers of transparent oil color over a textural groundwork of fossilized botanical impressions. Her painted surfaces capture light and are animated from within to achieve vibrancy, luminosity and drama.

Laspino’s thirty-five year career has been inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature and the orchid’s extraordinary influence on art, science and culture. She’s collaborated and exhibited with many prestigious public institutions, such as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the American Orchid Society, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA and others. Patricia was commissioned by the United States Botanic Garden at the Capitol to create two large original oil paintings to interpret their 2014 “Orchid Symphony” exhibition theme of orchids, classical music, and water fountains. She was honored to be the first artist to paint “The Michelle Obama Orchid” which was viewed by over 250,000 visitors at the Capitol. This piece and other selected works from the artist’s private collection will be available for the first time for acquisition at this unique collector’s opportunity.
