Outages, Closures In Fairfield After Severe Storms: Police

Via the Fairfield Police Department: FAIRFIELD, CT — The Town of Fairfield experienced heavy rain and winds as several bursts of severe thunderstorms passed through Wednesday evening.

• United Illuminating reports 705 customers — or 2.92% — in Fairfield without power as of about 9 a.m. Thursday.

• Fairfield public works and State Department of Transportation crews are out in force to clean up downed trees and debris.

• Due to rain fall amounts exceeding the closure criteria, all town swimming areas are closed Thursday.

• Emergency personnel in Fairfield responded to over 100 calls for service related to the storms. The Fairfield Emergency Communications Center fielded a staggering amount of 911 and routine calls during the storms while maintaining radio communication with units in the field.

• At 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, a large tree limb was struck by lightning and fell, landing on a vehicle in the 3500 block of Park Avenue. A 21-year-old male driver was found in the vehicle and was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Fairfield Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the victim’s family during this most difficult time and asks that his family’s privacy be respected.
