PCB-Containing Paint Found At Fairfield Ludlowe High School

The discovery was made during the school's Window Replacement Project and a public forum is planned.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A public forum will take place July 11 after PCB-containing paint has been determined to exist at Fairfield Ludlowe High School during the school’s Window Replacement Project. Officials say the paint has been encapsulated by years of repainting of the school’s interior and “environmental testing has determined that there are no air quality issues or health risks posed by the encapsulated paint.”

“The Fairfield Ludlowe High School Building Committee, Fairfield Health Department, CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are working closely with the Town of Fairfield and its environmental consultants to determine details of the abatement plan for these areas as part of the work of the Fairfield Ludlowe High School Building Committee,” according to a joint press release from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toni Jones and First Selectmen Mike Tetreau. “Work on the Window Replacement Project is not affected by the encapsulated paint.

“To accommodate community interest in this issue, a public forum is planned. Experts from the Fairfield Health Department and the project’s environmental consulting firm will be on hand to answer questions.”
