Pequot Library Announces Full Slate Of April Programs

Pequot Library proudly unveils a slew of exciting lectures and events for April, including the first Pequot Library Climate Summit 2022 with guest speaker Edwina von Dal, landscape artist-to-the-stars and founder of the Perfect Earth Project, an influential nonprofit dedicated to eliminating chemical lawn treatments. Read on for the full list of forthcoming events, listed in chronological order!

April 6 marks the kick-off day of the ever-popular Spring Book Sale, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and lasts through April 9! In honor of National Library Giving Day, anyone who makes a $100 donation on April 6 shall receive a 20% discount on all purchases. All books all cost $2.

Next, local mom and nutritionist Liz Bechtold appears for a conversation titled “Take Charge of Your Health: Reduce Inflammation and Dis-ease,” on April 6 at 6 p.m. Liz will share her family’s journey and offer concrete tips and changes families can make to improve overall health, from discovering household hacks to reducing sugar intake. The program will end with a cooking demonstration for a healthy, quick meal.

Poet Palmer Smith joins us for Meet the Author on April at 6 p.m. She’ll speak about her upcoming book The Butterfly Bruises, a collection of eighty poems and a general meditation on animals, the ocean, miscommunication, childhood, Northeastern versus Southern American culture, family, nature versus technology, and the imagination of the introvert.

The Pequot Library Climate Summit 2022 will take place from April 22nd to 23rd and offers pay as you go programming. These two days will focus on celebrating the environment and learning how to care for it better. First on April 22 at 12 p.m., Master Composters Mary Hogue and Dan Martens from the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force will teach attendees how to compost by successfully recycling food scraps in their backyards. At 1:30 p.m., there will be a conversation with Patrick Horan of Waldingfield Farm, and Lori Cochran-Dougall, Executive Director of Westport Farmers Market, about the important role of consumers in the cycle of agriculture and environmentalism. Following a coffee and networking break, at 3:30, Misty Beyer from the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force will offer a workshop on recycling titled “What’s In/What’s Out?”

The following day, Featured Guest Speaker Edwina von Gal appears at 1 p.m. Von Gal is the founder of the Perfect Earth Project, an organization that promotes toxin-free land maintenance with the motto “transforming landscapes and minds, yard by yard.” Afterwards, Aspetuck Land Trusts speaks about their mission for the preservation and conservation of open spaces at 3 p.m., and Norwalk-based crowd-pleasing band Barnstorm plays a mix of classic rock, bluegrass, and country at 4 p.m.

Families can enjoy a range of activities this month, including Meet the Author Jr. with local star Susan Hood on April 7 (7 p.m.), an event that’s taken on a new significance, as Susan’s latest middle grade book focuses on two Ukrainian sisters who outwit their Nazi captors. The content of this program is appropriate for older children. Pequot also offers two Young Persons’ Concerts on April 8 (7p.m.) and 9th (2 p.m.) and the return of the beloved Easter Egg Roll on April 16 at 10 a.m. The bunny himself will make an appearance!
