A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at the Southport Railroad Station on Tuesday afternoon.
Personnel on the scene told the Fairfield Citizen that preliminary indications are that the incident may have been a suicide, but there has been no official finding on the cause.
The Hartford Courant reports that the woman was lying on the southbound tracks around 1:45 p.m. but a train engineer spotted her and was able to stop. She was then lying on the northbound tracks and was struck by the northbound train, according to the Courant.
