A 19-year-old Seymour man accused of trying to steal $484 worth of DVDs from Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield Tuesday afternoon was arrested on a larceny charge, and his alleged getaway driver was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Police said Daniel Scinto, of Davis Road, put $484 worth of DVDs in a shopping basket and tried to leave the supermarket without paying for them about 3:52 p.m. Scinto dropped the basket after he walked past cash registers and realized he was being followed and then got into a car driven by James Monks, 21, of Green Valley Road in Stratford, police said.
A police officer had noticed the car parked in a fire lane outside the supermarket, which police said was a common practice of shoplifters, and waited for Scinto to emerge from the supermarket, police said.
Scinto was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and Monks was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle after the officer found brass knuckles in the car, police said.
Scinto and Monks were each released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court May 23, police said.
A 32-year-old Bridgeport motorist who was stopped early Wednesday by Kings Highway East and Fairchild Avenue in Fairfield due to an obstructed windshield and suspended driver's license was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Police said a patrol officer pulled over a car driven by Natasha Rivera, of Judson Street, about 12:44 a.m. because she had a large air freshener and school ID card hanging from her rearview mirror and also because a DMV check revealed she had a suspended driver's license.
Police said Rivera had cocaine and a cut straw with cocaine residue on it and that she had an active arrest warrant for second-degree failure to appear in court out of West Haven.
Rivera was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. On those charges, she was released on a promise to appear May 23 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.
Rivera was held in lieu of $500 bond on the failure to appear in court charge and was scheduled to appear in court in Milford on June 3, police said. She was also cited for having a suspended driver's license and an obstructed windshield, police said.
