Man Dead Following Water Rescue Near Lighthouse Point: Police
Fairfield police responded to the area after a caller reported two men struggling in the water near Lighthouse Point and Penfield Reef.
FAIRFIELD, CT — A man who went missing while swimming in the water near Lighthouse Point on Saturday has died, according to police.
Fairfield police said they received a call around 12:10 p.m. about two men struggling in the water near Lighthouse Point and Penfield Reef. According to police, several bystanders helped rescue one of the men; however, authorities were unable to locate the second man.
Fairfield police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and several other agencies launched a search and found the man around 3 p.m., authorities said. He was taken to shore where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Authorities did not release the man's name.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," Fairfield police said in a statement. "We thank all the responding agencies for their swift and professional assistance in this operation."
