School Shooting Call Is Cause For Extra Security: Fairfield Supt.
In the call, an unidentified person said, 'I know someone who's gonna shoot up the school,' according to an email from the school district.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield schools will have increased security Thursday after police received a call Wednesday afternoon about a school shooting, according to an email from the superintendent.
In the call, an unidentified person said, "I know someone who's gonna shoot up the school," and hung up, Superintendent Mike Cummings said Wednesday night in an email to parents. Detectives found that the phone number was linked to an IP address in Texas, according to Cummings, and discovered that in a short period of time the account was purchased and two calls were made, before the account was deactivated.
"The Fairfield Police are not concerned this is a credible threat," Cummings said in one of several emails Wednesday to parents.

However, the police department will increase its presence at Fairfield schools, according to Cummings, who said additional security would be provided at all public and parochial schools Thursday.
The incident appears to be a spoof, Cummings said, which the Federal Communications Commission defines as, "when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity."

The call came mere days after the seventh anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, in which 20 children and six educators were killed Dec. 14, 2012, in nearby Newtown.
