Shakespeare at the Library: Chamber Chorus Concert

Celebrate May Day and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" with the Music on the Hill Chamber Chorus at the Pequot Library.

The Pequot Library brings the Music on the Hill Chamber chorus to its beloved performance space for “Shakespeare at the Library,” a concert featuring the words of The Bard in a variety of musical interpretations.

Artistic Director David H. Connell conducts the 16-voice ensemble, known for its impeccable performance, presenting musical settings of Shakespeare’s sonnets and songs from the plays.

The concert takes place on Friday, May 1, at 8:00 p.m. at the Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Avenue, Southport. Tickets are $25 reserved in advance at www.musiconthehillCT.org; $30 at the door.

The concert includes “Three Shakespeare Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and “Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare” by British jazz pianist George Shearing. The ensemble will also present modern reinterpretations of Shakespeare from such popular musicals as Bernstein’s West Side Story and Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate.

This is the final concert of the 2014-2015 season of Music at Pequot Library. Concerts are held in the library’s Tudor-style Concert Hall esteemed for its high-quality acoustics.
