Silvermine artist Mark Schiff Featured in NYC Art Show
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Silvermine artist Mark Schiff in Emerging Transformation.
The paintings of Mark Schiff combine the beauty and immediacy of Claude Monet’s work with the abstraction and energy of Jackson Pollock. Specializing in watercolor and acrylic pigments, Schiff uses painting to express his love for nature and the freedom that he finds in his work. His love of watercolor lies in its spontaneity and unpredictability: what Schiff calls “the mystery of the medium,” which could be considered parallel to the mystery of life. He incorporates watercolor pencils, crayons, and ink into his pieces to give each painting a sense of depth and dynamism. When working in acrylics, Schiff layers paint to create texture and interest, forming pieces that are bold and grounded. When he can, he paints en plein air, allowing nature to inspire him and dry his pigments more quickly, increasing the sense of spontaneity in his work.
As a practicing restorative dentist, Schiff started painting in watercolor after visiting an artist’s studio on vacation. He is now a sustaining associate member of the American Watercolor Society and was awarded Best in Category for watercolors at the 2011 Westport Arts Festival.

About the Exhibition
Poignant Moments Trapped in Time: Emerging Transformation
There is something eerily quiet about the artworks included in the NYC exhibition Emerging Transformation. The artists have distorted familiar scenes in careful deliberation to create a distinct, almost uncanny, atmosphere. Sweeping, empty landscapes, emotional portraits, static still lifes, and nonrepresentational abstracts have pared down their elements to the essentials, presenting the world in a still, powerful way. Even energetic scenes forcefully stop time in poignant moments, causing the viewer to stop along with the action and take life slowly, reverently, and deliberately.
