State Lawmakers and Fairfield PD Urge Residents to Act Responsibly on New Year’s Eve

To combat drunk driving this holiday season, Uber is once again joining Mothers Against Drunk Driving to keep Fairfield safe.

From Stu Loeser & Co.: To combat drunk driving this holiday season, Uber is once again joining Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) along with Fairfield’s state legislators and the Fairfield Police Department to urge residents to act responsibly on New Year’s Eve.

Friday’s press conference included the announcement of a few new promotions from Uber for existing and new riders in Connecticut. The details are as follows:

New Uber Users: New users can sign up for Uber with promo code MADDCT for $25 off their first Uber ride. For each signup, $5 will be donated to MADD Connecticut. Signup by downloading the app on your smartphone device.

Existing Uber Users: Existing Uber users can enter promo code MADDCT2016 and for every Uber ride taken between 12/31/16 - 1/1/17 11:59 PM EST Uber will donate $5 to MADD Connecticut.

Britta Mulderrig of Uber Connecticut, said: “It’s an honor to work with MADD, elected officials, and local law enforcement both during the holidays and throughout the year. Events like this give us the chance to remind people that there are other ways to get home when you’ve been out celebrating, and Uber is happy to be one such resource. When more people make responsible decisions, we can and will save lives.”

Sen. Tony Hwang said: “This partnership between Uber and MADD is a proven option to make sure our roads are as safe as possible on New Year’s Eve and throughout 2017. Drunken driving tragedies can be prevented. Please make responsible decisions and avoid drinking and driving while celebrating the start of the New Year.” Hwang represents Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, Weston, and Westport.

Rep. Brenda Kupchick said: “I'm happy to stand with MADD to save lives. MADD partnering with Uber makes me hopeful people will choose this safe and easy option. It's a matter of life and death.” Kupchick represents Fairfield and Southport.

Rep. Jonathan Steinberg said: “This is about saving lives. I thank Uber and MADD for coming together and helping make our roads safer.” Steinberg represents Westport

A recent report conjointly conducted by Uber and MADD found that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people make responsible choices resulting in fewer alcohol-related crashes.
