2 Peopled Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash On I-95 In Fairfield : UPDATE

The fatal crash occurred Thursday night, and closed the thruway in both directions for several hours, according to authorities. Update.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 northbound in Fairfield late Thursday night, according to Connecticut State Police.

Drivers in two vehicles were ejected during the crash, authorities said.

The fatal crash occurred just before midnight, and resulted in the closure of the thruway in both directions for several hours between Exits 19 and 23. The thruway has been reopened.

Killed in the crash were Bridgeport resident William A. Foster, 75, one of the drivers, and Fred Eugene Nimmon, 70, of Aspers, Pennsylvania, who was one of the other drivers, according to state police. The driver of the third vehicle, a Virginia resident, suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was treated at Bridgeport Hospital.

"Preliminary investigation revealed [a tractor trailer], [a 2018 Chevrolet Impala] and [a 2023 BMW 300] were traveling on Interstate 95 North, prior to exit 22," state police said in a news release. [The Chevrolet Impala] was traveling in the center lane of three, when [the Impala] for an unknown reason spun out, entered the median and collided with the concrete jersey barrier. After the impact, [the Impala] became disabled in the center lane. [The BMW] was traveling in the center lane and collided with [the Impala]. Due to the impact, [Foster] was ejected from [the Impala] onto the roadway.

"[The tractor trailer] was traveling in the center lane and collided with [the Impala]. After the impact, [the tractor trailer] entered the median and collided with the concrete jersey barrier. [Nimmon] was ejected from the [tractor trailer] into the median of Interstate 95 South. [Nimmon] and [Foster] were pronounced deceased at the collision scene."

The crash is under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.
