State Trooper Seriously Injured In I-95 Accident In Fairfield
The trooper was pulled over on the highway assisting a motorist who had stopped their disabled vehicle.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Connecticut State Police trooper suffered serious injuries after a car crashed into the cruiser while the officer was assisting a disabled vehicle on Interstate 95 in Fairfield just after 2 a.m. Sunday.
A vehicle driven by a Virginia woman was stopped in the median of Interstate 95 northbound, about one-quarter of a mile south of Exit 22 in Fairfield. A State Police cruiser driven by Gregory T. Sawicki, 28, was stopped behind the first vehicle with its emergency lights activated.
The driver of a third vehicle, Joseph Buzzanca, 32, of Trumbull, was driving in the left lane when his vehicle veered into the left shoulder and hit the State Trooper's cruiser, State Police say.

The force of the accident caused a chain reaction where the trooper's car pushed into the rear of the first vehicle and both the trooper, Sawicki, and Buzzanca were extricated from their vehicles by the Fairfield Fire Department, State Police said.
The two people in the first car suffered minor injuries, while Buzzanca also suffered minor injuries. Sawicki was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
