Stolen Car Crashes Into Police Cruiser, 5 Arrested In Fairfield

UPDATE: Police announce arrests, charges for 5 people after a stolen car crashed head-on into a police cruiser around 4 a.m.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Five Waterbury residents, four adults and one juvenile, were arrested after they crashed head-on into a police cruiser in a stolen car early Monday morning in Fairfield, according to police. At about 4:10 a.m. on Oct. 8, an officer on patrol in the area of Pequot Avenue in Southport observed a suspicious vehicle traveling on Westway Road.

“As the officer began to investigate, the vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed down Old South Road,” police wrote in a press release. “While the officer was traveling west on Pequot Avenue, the suspect vehicle swerved into his lane, across the centerline and struck the police car head-on. Three male subjects fled from the vehicle, while two female subjects remained in the vehicle and were apprehended by responding officers.”

Westport Police’s K-9 unit responded to assist with a track and led officers to the area of Westford Drive. Police set up a perimeter and located all three suspects in the area of Westford Drive, according to police.

Police said further investigation revealed that the vehicle they were operating was stolen out of Waterbury. To sign up for Fairfield breaking news alerts and more, click here.

“Contents located in the stolen vehicle led to the discovery of several thefts from motor vehicles in the area of Henderson Road and a stolen Mercedes Benz from Cedar Road,” police said.

The Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision with the police cruiser.

Jose Diaz, 19, was arrested on charges of risk of injury to a minor, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglar, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. He was also issued a motor vehicle summons for reckless driving, failure to drive in proper lane, evading with injury, and no license. He is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 16.

Joseph Frazier, 20, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 16.

Averie Reyes, 19, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. She is being held in lieu of a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 16.

Jasmine Smith, 19, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. She is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 16.

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. The juvenile was transferred to a Hartford Juvenile Detention Center and scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court on Oct. 29.
