FAIRFIELD, CT — With tensions running high at school districts in Bridgeport and Westport following online threats against schools, Fairfield Public Schools sought to calm residents Thursday that local schools remain safe.

In an afternoon message to families on Thursday, Fairfield Superintendent Michael Testani wrote that "there are no known or actionable threats to Fairfield Public Schools."

Earlier in the week, a juvenile Westport student was arrested after police said the student posted a threat on social media against Staples High School, and on Wednesday, Bridgeport police arrested a juvenile student in that community under similar circumstances.

"While arrests have been made in neighboring towns, the situation in Bridgeport has no direct connection whatsoever to our schools," Testani wrote.

"As always, we ask that faculty, staff and students remain hyper vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Fairfield Police Department," Testani continued. "Having information helps the Police Department address any situations swiftly and effectively. However, it is important to be mindful when reposting or sharing information on social media. While well-intentioned, continued sharing of these messages can lead to amplifying unnecessary fear and concern, increasing stress across the community."
