FAIRFIELD, CT — Four New York men were arrested on larceny and related charges Friday morning, after Fairfield police said they stole mail from USPS blue boxes in Southport.

The incident began when Fairfield officers saw a vehicle with the engine running in front of the Spic & Span Market on Pequot Road, with someone sleeping in the driver's seat.

"In plain view, officers observed a large amount of open mail, rat traps with a sticky substance, and items used to fish mail out of blue USPS collection boxes," Fairfield Police Lt. Edward Nook said in a statement. "Officers checked nearby collection boxes and observed them to have a sticky substance applied on the inside, as well as a belt sticking out of one box."
