A BMW traveled up the bed of the tow truck and struck the tow driver, who was standing near the flatbed portion of the truck, police said.
TRUMBULL, CT — A Fairfield-based towing company was connected to a fatal crash Wednesday in Trumbull. Tow truck driver Corey John Iodice, 58, of Florida, was struck and killed while assisting a driver whose vehicle had broken down Wednesday afternoon on Route 15, Connecticut State Police said.
Police said Iodice's tow truck, owned by Fairfield-based Iodice Family Transport LLC, along with two other vehicles, a 2008 Mercedes and a 2010 Audi, were stopped in the right shoulder on Route 15 southbound just south of Exit 48.
The Mercedes, driven by a Bridgeport man, was disabled and being loaded onto the flatbed portion of the tow truck at the time of the accident, police said. The Audi, which was driven by another Bridgeport man, had arrived to pick up the driver of the Mercedes and was parked right behind his friend's car, police said.

"At the time of the collision (the tow truck) had its flatbed lowered and had vehicle 2 on the bed portion," police said. "All three vehicles were off the paved portion of the roadway and in the grassy right shoulder adjacent to the right lane."
A 46-year-old Weston man driving a 2016 BMW in the right lane, "lost control for unknown reasons," and struck the passenger side of the Mercedes and Audi, police said. The BMW then traveled up the bed of the tow truck and struck Iodice, who was standing near the flatbed portion of the tow truck, police said.
