Traffic Delays Expected Friday In Fairfield During Torch Run
Delays are expected as the run goes through town, according to Fairfield police.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield police will participate Friday in the Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. They will carry the torch through Fairfield as it makes its way to New Haven, according to a police department Facebook post. Residents are encouraged to come out and cheer on the officers.
The run will take place along Route 1 from the Westport town line to the Bridgeport city line. Slight traffic delays are expected as the run goes through town, police stated. The Fairfield portion of the event will begin just after noon at the Interstate 95 underpass and is projected to end before 1:30 p.m. at Dewey Street. There will be a break at about 12:20 p.m. at Sherman Green.
The 2019 Torch Run is happening Wednesday through Friday, covering over 500 miles and passing through more than 100 cities and towns, according to Special Olympics Connecticut. Over 1,500 law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes are expected to participate.
