FAIRFIELD, CT — The Connecticut State Police trooper who was seriously injured in a crash last weekend on Interstate 95 was released Tuesday from Bridgeport Hospital, according to FOX61. Gregory T. Sawicki was assisting a disabled vehicle just after 2 a.m. Sunday when a third vehicle struck his cruiser. The driver who caused the crash was an off-duty corrections officer, FOX61 reported.

The force of the crash into Sawicki's vehicle caused a chain reaction and the trooper's car was pushed into the vehicle he had been assisting. The two people in that car, which was stopped in the northbound median near Exit 22 in Fairfield, suffered minor injuries. Sawicki, 28, and Joseph Buzzanca, who was driving the vehicle that hit the police cruiser, both had to be extricated. Buzzanca, 32, suffered minor injuries.
