Walgreens Withdraws Plan to Build New Pharmacy in Southport
The company canceled its plans for the site following a lawsuit launched by neighborhood residents that alleges improprieties.

In light of a legal challenge by neighborhood residents, Walgreens has withdrawn its plans to build a new pharmacy in the Southport section of town, according to the Fairfield Citizen.
Former Selectman Sherri Steeneck confirmed to the Citizen that Walgreens is no longer the tenant for the property, located at 3553 and 3571 Post Road and 886 Kings Highway. Steeneck is the manager of the LLC that owns the property.
The Citizen reports that the legal challenge filed by neighbors against the Planning and Zoning Commission’s approval for the project last November has taken a personal tone with the plaintiffs calling into question Steeneck’s support for current TPZ Vice Chairman Gerry Alessi when he was appointed to the panel in 2011.

The plaintiffs want to introduce an email Steeneck sent after the TPZ vote on the proposal, as well an email two TPZ members sent prior to the vote, according to the Citizen.
