Controversial Plan to Build a Walgreens in Southport Moves Forward

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the application by a 5-2 vote.

The controversial plan to build a Walgreens pharmacy in the Southport section of town moved forward when the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-2 to approve the application, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports that the zone change for parts of the property from a mix of residential and industrial zones to a commercial designation needed at least five affirmative votes to be approved because a petition had been submitted.

Southport residents have spoken out against the Walgreens, which will be built on a vacant parcel of land on properties at 3553 and 3571 Post Road and 886 Kings Highway, in previous meetings.
