“Congratulations to Whole Foods Market on their third anniversary,” said Beverly Balez, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “Not only does the store provide a huge variety of natural and organic foods, they are also an outstanding business providing great support to the community.”

The Fairfield location of the national organic and natural food grocer may be only three years old but it has already made a significant impact in the community. They have partnered with dozen of community groups to help run food drives, host regular tours and classes, and donate food and services. This year they participated in the Town of Fairfield’s 375th Food Drive, opened a gallery of Fairfield Woods Middle School student artwork, hosted dozens of scout groups, run a Local Night program to promote local entrepreneurs, and donated thousands of dollars to a wide variety of community groups.

Twelve different local Fairfield organizations have benefited from the company’s “5% Days,” during which five percent of one day’s total sales is donated to the selected non-profit to help run their hunger relief, educational and environmental programs.

This July 1, the store will hold a 5% Day for the new Black Rock Farmer's Market and in September, they will hold another 5% day for the Pequot Library. Shop any time the store is open on July 2 and 5% of all sales will go to the farmer's market, operated through St. Ann's Church in Bridgeport. Other groups who benefitted from the donation day since they opened are: The Fairfield Theater Company, the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Fuel for Learning Partnership, Operation Hope, Fairfield American Little League, Westport Farmers Market, Fairfield University, Ct Public Broadcasting, Ichan School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, Autism Speaks, Six to Six Magnet School and the Wholesome Wave Foundation.

“We are very excited to be able to help an organization that serves as not only a library, but also a community and cultural center in our area,” said Marketing Team Leader Liz Giegerich. “We know the library will put the 5% Day donation to good use supporting their many programs.”

The Fairfield store is open Monday through Sunday, 8 am to 10 pm. It features a coffee and gelato bar, brick-oven pizza, house made nut butters, sushi and dry-aged beef, in addition to its produce, meat, seafood, grocery, body care, bakery and specialty departments.

Additionally, the store features a host of environmentally friendly features from recycling to in-store composting to parking spots designated for rechargeable and energy efficient vehicles.

Services offered include personal shopping and a Healthy Eating Center, part of the Whole Foods Market Health Starts Here ™ program. The Center is staffed by Sam Popalardo, the store’s healthy eating specialist, who hosts classes, demos and educational programs to help shoppers and team members lead a healthier lifestyle.
