America's Got Talent, American Masters, Top Chef: Just Desserts

America's Got Talent, 9 p.m., NBC

Kids, I have not had power since Sunday night, so I am as in the dark about what is going on with our favorite shows as I am literally in the dark. And of course I realized last night that with no power - the TiVo is not working either. I had some sort of crazy fantasy that it was magically recording all the shows I was missing. This truly is Armageddon.

American Masters, 8:30 p.m., PBS (check listings)

What I have been doing is reading - by candlelight, which makes me feel all Little House in the Big Woodsy - and also that makes me feel all PBS-y because I understand that people who watch PBS also read a lot. Of course I am reading T. Jefferson Park and James Lee Burke, not War and Peace, but whatever.

Top Chef: Just Desserts, 10 p.m., Bravo

The other thing that I have learned about myself through all this is that during a hurricane, I eat. Right now I am eating a leftover hot dog and Ruffles. This morning I ate a 100-year-old coffee cake I bought at a gas station. Got cheese? Good, because I want it. And chicken tenders are excellent sauteed in a frying pan on the gas stove.
