The Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra will present a concert staging of Sir Arthur Sullivan’s first comic opera, “Cox and Box,” at its opening concert of the 2017-18 season, Saturday, Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m., the Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford.
Featuring three experienced Gilbert and Sullivan singers from Broadway, Daniel Greenwood, tenor, James Mills, baritone and Matthew Wages, bass-baritone, “Cox and Box” is the tale of two long-lost brothers who unknowingly rent the same room from Bouncer, a scheming landlord, and discover that they share more than the just same bed.

Conducted by Jonathan Brennand, who begins his fourth season as Music Director of the distinguished 80-member all-volunteer orchestra, the concert will open with Wagner’s “Prelude to Die Meistersinger” and Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.”
