Don’t miss this rare opportunity to Explore Historic Ferry Farm! Discover the fascinating history of Ferry Farm: the historic house built in 1786 by Noadiah Bissell. The property has lived many lives. Once a tavern serving ferry passengers, the property later became South Windsor’s Town Farm.
Enjoy a guided tour of the house including its notorious jail cells! Learn about daily life on the farm and try your hand at spinning wool. Then take a walk along the Connecticut River with River Steward, Ashley Lively of Connecticut River Conservancy. Visitors will explore the area’s shipbuilding history and changing ecology. You will even have a chance to test your rope tying skills.
After a hard day’s work, relax outdoors with a modern cheese plate and a tavern tidbit created by Front Porch Charcuterie, followed by an informal Q&A with our experts.
This event takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1-4 pm and is a very special opportunity to tour a historic, privately owned property. (The last time the house was open to the public was 2016 for a fundraising dinner.)

Please note that this is a historic building and requires the use of stairs. The walk to the Connecticut River includes an uneven path. Comfortable, sturdy footwear is recommended.
