Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT
- The Department of Art and Art History at Eastern Connecticut State University hosted its annual Senior Art Exhibition and Awards Ceremony this May. Graduating student artists were recognized and their work was on display in the Art Gallery from May 5-15. Among the featured artists was Dianalysse Floran of Farmington, who majors in Visual Arts and concentrates in printing and drawing. "It is an incredible honor to be in the senior exhibition. It gives me my first opportunity to put myself into the world," said Floran. "Seeing my art on display felt surreal. Overall, I would be happy if my art could be a piece of conversation. A piece that would help the viewer through something in their life or just make them feel something positive."
- A group of gifted mathematics students at Eastern Connecticut State University was inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME), the national honor society for the field of mathematics, at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. Among the inductees was Michael Underwood of Farmington, who majors in Mathematics and Computer Science. KME is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. It was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. Members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship and who have professional merit and have attained academic distinction.

- Megan Moreno of Farmington was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Moreno is pursuing a degree in Psychology at University of Maryland - College Park. Moreno is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, KY
- On Saturday, May 6, University of the Cumberlands (UC) conferred 927 degrees during the annual commencement ceremonies. Among the graduates was Asif Hussaini Syed of Farmington, who earned a Master of Science degree.
