Recent accomplishments by college students who reside in Farmington.

FARMINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from Farmington, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption College Department of Economics has announced that Matt Cowles, of Farmington, has become a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society for those who study economics. Cowles, Class of 2018, was inducted into the honor society on Thursday, March 23. To qualify as a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the student must be an economics major and carry at least a 3.0 grade point average in both the major and in his or her overall studies.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • A group of Eastern Connecticut State University students was recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history. Andrea Slater of Farmington was one of the inductees. Slater's major is History and Sociology.

Emerson College, Boston MA

  • A pair of students from Farmington have been named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the fall 2016 semester. The requirement to make the Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.
    Local honorees are Katharine Rhee, a Journalism major, and Jeremy Stein, a Design/Technology major.

Ithaca College, Ithaca NY

  • Madalyn Trombley, a Environmental Studies major at Ithaca College hailing from Farmington, was one of over 150 IC students to be named to the Empire 8 President's List. In order to be considered for the President's List, a student-athlete must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

Stonehill College, Easton MA

  • Three students from Farmington have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2016 semester. They are Erika Isner, Class of 2017; Linna Jalinskas, Class of 2019; and Sydney Stepeck, Class of 2018. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

Union College, Schenectady NY

  • Union College students are traveling abroad during the spring term. Students have traveled to such places as Italy, Germany and England this term. Rachel Andreana of Unionville, a member of the Class of 2018 majoring in Mechanical Engineering, is in Florence, Italy, studying the Italian language and Renaissance architecture. Julianne Loree of Farmington, a member of the Class of 2018 majoring in Economics and Political Science, is in London, England, studying through coursework, internships and cultural activities.

Wheaton College, Norton MA

  • Freshman Shannon Connolly of Farmington, a member of the Wheaton women’s swimming and diving team, earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for her academic achievement of maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 fall semester. She also was one of 13 student-athletes from the team who made the Wheaton College Dean’s List, earning a 3.50 grade point average or better.
