Energy Provider Offers Farmington Residents Locked-In Rate
Direct Energy provides electricity at a low rate with some small benefit to the town.

You get phone calls all the time from companies trying to convince you to choose them as your energy provider. It’s the same energy, they say, just at a lower price.
One company, Direct Energy, has teamed up with the Town of Farmington to offer residents and businesses a lower rate, according to a letter sent recently to residents. And Farmington Assistant Town Manager Erica Robertson says the company is legitimate.
“This is the second year we’ve been in the program and it basically offers a good price to Farmington residents and small businesses,” Robertson said by phone Tuesday. “People call and ask is this legit and it is. It’s one of the best prices available right now.”

The deal, which allows residents to name Direct Energy as their energy supplier at a rate of $0.067 per KWh, also provides some small benefit to the town. There’s no fee to sign up or to cancel.
“We get a very small benefit for everyone who signs up,” Robertson explained. “The Town of Wethersfield did it and got about $8,000 back. I’m hopeful we can get a couple thousand dollars back that we can hopefully use green energy because we don’t have a budget for that.”
