Often overlooked among the museum's larger treasures, eight bronzes by French master Antoine-Louis Barye (1795–1875) grace Hill-Stead's collection. Barye is best known as a sculptor of animals, or animalier, recognized for his realistic portrayals. Whether depicting the common housecat relaxing, or exotic animals in life-or-death struggles, Barye captured exquisite detail and mood. See all eight bronzes up close in this special talk.
