Teen Battle Chef's Final Battle

Farmington Continuing Education partnered with the Farmington Valley Health District this past school year to offer a Teen Battle Chef curriculum through FamilyCook Productions from New York. This program is a powerful youth development tool comprised of an 8-week curriculum where teens work in teams and ‘battle’ by presenting cooking demonstrations of their assigned recipe.  Each presentation includes the recipe’s nutritional and ethnic background.  The teens learn basic cooking skills using fresh healthy ingredients, fundamental nutrition, teamwork, cultural awareness and tolerance, confidence in meal preparation/planning/execution, public speaking, sharing meals with friends, and leadership.

Farmington Continuing Education will be concluding its spring session with a battle between the TCB students and the Farmington High School staff on Tuesday, May 31st from from 3-5 p.m. in the Cafe at Farmington High School.

The teams will each be given a country along with recipes and cultural information. They will have 1 hour to prepare an appetizer, entree and dessert, plate them, and then present to the panel of judges who will be comprised of administrators and area chefs.  They will be judged on teamwork, organization, cleanliness, food safety, knife skills, entertainment value, culture & nutrition presentation, visual presentation and taste. This is free and open to the public.
