Farmington BOE Approves Full-Day Kindergarten

Farmington will be switching to full-day kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year.

Farmington will be switching to full-day kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year.

The Hartford Courant’s Kristin Stoller reports that the Board of Education voted 6-3 to implement the program next year.

Board members cited many factors for being in favor of the change, including new Common Core State Standards. Those who were opposed questioned why kindergarteners should be subjected to the stresses of a full day.

The move to full day kindergarten failed in 2012 after the item was tabled and not picked up.

Farmington will join many other school districts across the state that have implemented full day kindergarten.
