Farmington Couple Selected to Aiello Inspiration Team at Eversource Hartford Marathon

Colleen & Sean Alexander recognized for their charitable efforts and inspiring journey

The Hartford Marathon Foundation has named a Farmington, CT, couple to the prestigious 2016 Aiello Inspiration Team at the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon. Colleen and Sean Alexander will be honored on the team along other inspiring volunteers and athletes who have made a positive impact in their community.

As a young adult, Colleen dedicated her efforts in supporting the worldwide humanitarian organization as a Red Cross instructor and international advisor. She was a force in setting up women’s health clinics in Guyana. Colleen’s affiliation with the Red Cross took new meaning in 2011 when she went from blood donor to recipient.

While on a routine bike ride, Colleen was hit by a freight truck. As she fought for her life, she needed more than 78 units of blood. Colleen not only survived but she now thrives, having completed more than 50 race events, including 30 triathlons.

Sean, her husband and fellow blood recipient, has been by her side during each step of Colleen’s recovery process, knowing first-hand how difficult the road to recovery can be. Following a traumatic snowboarding accident, Sean survived due to several units of blood donations.

As members of the Aiello Inspiration Team, Colleen and Sean will receive custom event apparel and perks at the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon. All team members will also be profiled in the Eversource Hartford Marathon Insider’s Guide.
