Born in Hartford on November 21, 1923, daughter of Nelson L. and Hazel W. Kingsbury, Joan spent her early years in Vernon and Granby. She attended Simsbury High School before her marriage to Paul Knight in 1942. Both were active in the Granby community. Joan was a member of the Granby Congregational Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lost Acres Fire Department, the Granby Grange, and the PTA. She obtained a real estate license in the late 1950s and with Paul established The Knights of Granby real estate firm. In 1973, Joan and Paul “retired” to South Yarmouth, MA, where Joan began another career in sales, working for the Sherwin-Williams Co. and for the Jordan Marsh department store until she actually retired in 1989. After Paul’s death in 1990, she remained on Cape Cod, an active member of the West Dennis Community Church and the Friendly Guild; she was also the volunteer manager of the church thrift shop. Joan returned to Connecticut in 2004. Aging gracefully, Joan’s vivid personality remained intact. She enjoyed family visits, retelling stories of treasured memories and mementoes, baking cookies (always best served with a dish of ice cream), and having a glass of wine before dinner.
Her family thanks the staff of both The Gables and The Suffield House for their care and concern.
