Farmington Obituary: John Scheidel, 71

John “Jack” Scheidel of Burlington, husband of Cecile (Poirier) Scheidel died September 11, 2016.

Jack was born in Hartford to Augustus “Gus” Scheidel and Julia (Flood) Scheidel on November 10, 1944. Jack graduated from Canton High School in 1962. He worked 24 years at Dunham Bush Company. He then worked for The Ahern Funeral Homes Inc for 25 years.

Jack was raised and resided in Collinsville until 2011 when he and Cecile moved to Burlington. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Collinsville. Jack loved all sports. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and the UConn women. He also enjoyed following the Connecticut Sun team and attending games with his special cousin Mrs. Anne Marie Deren of New London.

Jack dedicated much of his free time to the Canton Street Volunteer Fire Company for over 46 years. He enjoyed spending the months of January and February in Treasure Island, Florida. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his generosity of heart, and his terrific sense of humor. You always knew where you stood with Jack – he told it like it was. He truly was a stand-up guy.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 26 years, Cecile; his brother James and wife Emilie (Habernak) Scheidel, Sr. of Dunkirk, Maryland and a sister-in-law Betty Ann (widow of Thomas) Scheidel of Canton. He also leaves 2 nieces Susan Deckert and Cynthia Vogel from Maryland and 3 nephews: James Scheidel, Jr. from Andover, Kansas; and Jonathan Scheidel from Avon and Allen from Barkhamsted, and many close cousins and a limitless amount of friends. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother Thomas of Canton.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Route 4, Unionville on Friday, September 16 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday September 17 at 11 am in St. Patrick Church, Collinsville. Burial will be in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery, Collinsville.
