More than 80,000 Connecticut residents are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or related conditions, according to advocates.
Lawmakers provided updates on legislative efforts, while attendees shared personal stories about the impact of the disease.
Representatives from both communities said they used the opportunity to advocate for residents and families they serve locally in Farmington and Simsbury.
Sophie Mitten, sales director at Skybrooke at Simsbury, emphasized the importance of connecting policy to daily care.
“Focusing on each individual and their support circle is at the core of what we do every day at Skybrooke,” Mitten said. “Having the opportunity to step back, better understand policies that impact families across Connecticut, and take meaningful action was truly energizing. Partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association has strengthened our connections with peers, and it was inspiring to stand alongside others advocating for a shared cause.”
Discussions centered on advancing funding, expanding workforce training, and improving early diagnosis statewide.
Advocates said continued engagement with legislators will be critical as proposals move forward this session.
Both communities operate specialized memory care programs designed for residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and staff members undergo dementia-focused training as part of their roles.
