Farmington Valley Dominates In Hockey Finals
A five-goal explosion in the second period propelled the Generals to victory over Guilford in the Division II championship game.
NEW HAVEN, CT — A highly-productive six and a half minute portion of the second period ensured a state championship for the Farmington Valley co-op ice hockey team in the Division II finals.
Leading Guilford by a 2-0 count, the Generals exploded for five goals in that stretch, launching them to a 7-3 victory before a raucous crowd at the Ingalls Rink at Yale University.
Six different Generals tallied goals, with Matt Arena netting a pair, including the first of the game with 3:44 left in the opening period. Owen Lacourciere added another with 27 seconds left in the session to provide Farmington Valley with a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.

Jake Percival initiated the second period scoring brigade at the 4:46 mark, followed by Arena's second of the game 85 seconds later. Tim Arena, Kyle Kadziolka and Eric Scwheitzer also found their way onto the score sheet before Guilford's John DeLucia momentarily stopped the bleeding late in the period.
Jack Ring and Jack Dacey scored in the third period for the Indians, who were seeking their second straight Division II crown.

Farmington Valley goaltender Trevor Paluso had to stop just 12 shots, while his Guilford counterpart, Mete Yanbul, had 28 saves.
