Farmington Valley Maintains Top 10 Hockey Spot

The Generals won 15 of their first 16 games this season.

FARMINGTON VALLEY, CT — Extending its winning streak to 11 straight games, the boys ice hockey co-op of Farmington, Avon, Windsor and Lewis Mills high schools continues to rank in the state's top 10 in the most recent balloting of coaches and media members.

Farmington Valley (15-1) held the No. 8 spot while continuing to set the pace as frontrunner in Division II. The Generals travel to Wesleyan University to face Cheshire Saturday at 10 a.m., then host Hall/Southington Monday at 1 p.m. at the Loomis Chaffee School.

Despite suffering its first loss of the season, Fairfield Prep continues to dominate the poll, earning all but one first-place vote from balloters.

Here are the top 10, plus all other programs receiving votes, with records through Feb. 15:

  2. Ridgefield (13-3)
  3. Xavier (13-5)
  4. Notre Dame-West Haven (9-6)
  5. Greenwich (15-2)
  6. Hamden (10-6)
  7. New Fairfield/Immaculate (9-3-3)
  8. Farmington Valley (15-1)
  9. Notre Dame-Fairfield (8-7)
  10. Guilford (13-3)

Also receiving votes: Northwest Catholic (8-8-1), Simsbury (7-9-1), Darien (8-8-1), Watertown/Pomperaug (12-2-1), Conard (9-7), New Canaan (8-9).
