Hartt School Brass Faculty at Farmington HS

Collaboration and Creativity are key to effective musical communication

On Friday, February 23rd, the brass faculty from the Hartt School of Music presented a performance/discussion for the Farmington High School music department. Over 100 students attended and discussed the importance of the role of music in the humanities and how creativity influences decision-making.

Members of the brass faculty performed selections featuring solo performances by each one of the quintet's instruments: trumpets, french horn, trombone and tuba. Faculty and students discussed topics such as: historical practices of technique, composer intent, decision-making as a musician, and challenges in the collaboration and communication of music-making.

Hartt faculty included: Phil Snedocer, trumpet; Barbara Hill, french horn; Scott Mendoker, tuba; Haim Avitsur, trombone; and graduate student, Brandon Dicks, trumpet.
