Chainsaw vs. Gun: Alleged Road Rage Incident Gets Out of Control

One Farmington man allegedly pulled out a chainsaw and yelled racist slurs. Another man allegedly responded with a handgun. It gets nuttier.

FARMINGTON, CT- A Newington man was arrested after he went into a racist tirade and pulled out a chainsaw during a road rage incident, police said.

Michael Salafia, 30, turned himself in on a warrant for the May 6 incident, police said.

Salafia was allegedly involved in a dispute with another motorist. He exited his vehicle at a red light and approached another operator with a chainsaw in hand, according to police. He started the chainsaw and shouted racist slurs at the driver, a black male.

The man pulled out a legally owned handgun in an effort to stop Salafia from advancing, police said.

Salafia left the area, but police said he inadvertently cut himself on the chainsaw and left a blood spatter on the other driver's car.

Police later identified Salafia. The other driver wasn't charged.

Salafia was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening and intimidation, bigotry or bias. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
