One Business Caught Selling Tobacco Products to Underage Girl in Farmington

Unannounced compliance checks were performed Tuesday at 25 establishments in Farmington.

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington police, with the assistance of the State of Connecticut Department of Health and Addiction Services, conducted unannounced compliance inspections Tuesday at 25 establishments that sell tobacco products in Farmington, with just one failing to pass inspection.

The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition on the sale of tobacco products to youths under the age of 18. Under the direction and supervision of Farmington police investigators and with parental permission, a 17-year-old female entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products, Lt. Patrick Buckley said.

A clerk at Cumberland Farms, located at 352 Scott Swamp Road, sold a pack of Vuse E-Cigarette cartridges to the underage decoy. The clerk was issued an infraction for violation of Connecticut General Statute 53-344(b), Sale of Tobacco to Minors, Buckley said.
