The Luke Roux Foundation's annual wiffle ball tournament in Farmington raised funds for impaired driving education programs.
FARMINGTON, CT — The local community gathered on a sun-splashed Saturday to play a friendly game and remember a loved one who passed away much too soon, doing so in an effort to raise awareness and help ensure someone else is not lost the same way a 2022 Farmington High School graduate was.
More than 100 participants gathered in Farmington on Sunday, June 13, for the second annual Luke Roux Foundation Wiffle Ball Tournament, an event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and supporting the foundation's education and advocacy efforts.
Held at the Farmington Little League fields where Luke Roux played baseball growing up, the family-friendly event featured 16 teams competing in a day of wiffle ball and related activities.

Organizers said the tournament raised funds for the foundation's programming, including its SafeGrad SafeRide initiative, which is presented at Connecticut high schools each spring.
The Luke Roux Foundation was established in 2022 in memory of Roux, a Farmington resident who was killed by a drunk driver days after graduating from high school.

According to the foundation, its mission is "to reduce fatalities caused by impaired driving today and eliminate them tomorrow." The organization works toward that goal through education, advocacy, scholarships and community outreach programs.
Foundation leaders said the annual tournament honors Roux through an activity that reflected his character while bringing community members together to support efforts to prevent impaired driving.
