4 Killed After Plane Crashes Into Building In Farmington: Police

FARMINGTON, CT — Four people, two pilots and two passengers, were killed after a plane crashed into an industrial building at 111 Hyde Road at 9:52 a.m. Thursday, according to Farmington police.

Property records indicate the address is home to Trumpf Inc., a large manufacturer of fabricating machinery. Police are advising motorists to avoid the area.

Authorities described the aircraft as a "business jet" that was heading from Robertson Airport in Plainville to North Carolina with four people aboard. The National Transportation Safety Board said the plane was a Cessna 560XL.

Authorities are investigating whether there was a mechanical failure during takeoff, police said. There were about 300 people inside the industrial building and two injuries were reported. The investigation will last several days, authorities said. The identities of the four deceased has not been released.

By about 11:45 a.m., the fire at the scene was essentially out, but crews were still checking for "hot spots." When fire crews arrived the plane was fully engulfed in flames.

At noon, Gov. Ned Lamont said he was en route to the scene to assess the situation with emergency management crews from the state

"My prayers are with those on the ground and with the souls on board," he said.
