Police Hero Honored 68 Years After Death In Farmington
The Farmington Police Department remembered the anniversary Saturday of a local officer killed in the line of duty rescuing flood victims.

FARMINGTON, CT — Any town's finest always remembers those in its ranks who paid the ultimate sacrifice to their community.
And in Farmington, the Farmington Police Department over the weekend honored a man who gave his life while serving the town 68 years ago.
On Aug. 19, 1955, Farmington Police Officer Charles Yodkins Sr. was rescuing people stranded amid the flooding of the great flood of 1955 via his police boat .

Hurricanes Connie and Diane that year had dumped rain measured in feet during a short period of time in the summer and the state was waterlogged.
On Aug. 19, Yodkins was out in a boat throughout town rescuing trapped folks when his boat capsized and he drowned.

He was rescuing a couple trapped in Farmington in the River Glen neighborhood.
Yodkins was posthumously awarded a Carnegie Hero Medal and the FPD's Medal of Valor.
On Saturday, the FPD posted a tribute to Yodkins for his heroic role in local history.
