Renowned Pianist Performs in Farmington
Luiz de Moura Castro kicks off concert series
“Wonders of extraordinary beauty.” That’s how one critic describes the performance of pianist Luiz de Moura Castro, who will perform at St. James Episcopal Parish Friday at 7 p.m.
Luiz de Moura Castro is Professor of Piano at the Hartt School, University of Hartford, and also Teacher of Graduate Piano in Barcelona. He has produced over 40 CDs and annually performs in concerts throughout the United States and around the world.
“Luiz is always delighted to perform at St. James,” says the artist’s wife, Bridget. “Its fine acoustics make it an ideal venue for classical concerts; indeed the spirituality of classical music is enhanced by such surroundings.” Mrs. de Moura Castro will join her husband in performing a piece written for four hands, Schubert’s "Variations on a Theme in Bb."

The program will also feature pieces by Beethoven and Schumann, and a tribute to Franz Liszt, including a narration by Nathaniel Baker, in commemoration of the composer’s 200th birthday. A light reception will follow the concert, and will celebrate another momentous birthday, Mr. de Moura Castro’s 70th.
This concert is the first of this season’s Farmington Valley Concert Series, which includes vocal performances by Craig Hart and Susan Hart on April 19, and The Wiffenpoofs, Yale’s a capella choral group, on May 19.
