Republican Poll Finds Roraback Leads

Republican candidate Andrew Roraback leads Democratic opponent Elizabeth Esty by 7 points among decided voters in the Fifth Congressional District race, according to a Republican polling firm.

The poll, conducted Sept. 3 and 4, shows 42 percent of voters supporting Roraback, while 35 percent back Esty, with 21 percent still undecided.

National Research Inc., a Republican political polling firm, conducted the survey of “400 likely voters” in the Fifth District, according to a press release issued by the firm. The firm puts the margin of error at +/- 4.9 percent.

Other takeaways from the firm’s research, directly quoting from the press release, are the following:

• The generic ballot is virtually tied (GOP 45%, Dem, 43%) as might be expected in this district.
  
  
• President Obama’s favorable rating (53%) is higher than his job approval (46%)

• Despite her barrage of television ads, Elizabeth Esty has a remarkably flat image (35% favorable, 24% unfavorable).

• President Obama holds a slight lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (50%-46%)

• Among the voters who are most enthusiastic about this year’s elections, Roraback leads Esty 51%-36%, with 12% undecided.
